Since 1993, the American Hiking Society has set aside the first Saturday in June as National Trails Day, bringing together outdoor enthusiasts to participate in educational exhibits, trail dedications, gear demonstrations, instructional workshops and trail projects.

Our guided hike in Rugby will include parts of the Rugby State Natural Area, most likely a new “overlook” section of the Laurel Branch Trail, with a chance to help rid a part of the creek of invasive Japanese spirea. (Please add a pair of garden gloves to your kit if you’re willing to help with that.) Just meet at the Historic Rugby Visitor Centre at 10 a.m. Eastern/9 Central. FREE. Bring water, bug spray, a hiking stick if you like, and dress appropriately with sturdy shoes or boots. The Harrow Road Cafe is now open for lunch afterward. THIS HIKE IS LIMITED TO 10 PARTICIPANTS BECAUSE OF COVID-19 DISTANCING, SO ACT SOON. RESERVE HERE:
