Many thanks to the hardworking volunteers of the Friends of Rugby State Natural Area who put on a terrific 2015 Hike Rugby! event this past Saturday. This is the second year for the event which showcases the many trails in and around Rugby and, in spite of the weather, over fifty people came to enjoy the various morning and afternoon guided hikes. Created in 2014 as a memorial to long-time Rugby trail enthusiast Eric Wilson, the well planned event treated guests to home made banana bread and trail mix, other snacks, bottles of water and trail maps. Eric would have been very proud and deeply touched to see the community effort that went into the occasion. Volunteers worked many hours ahead of the event designing trail maps and brochures, building connector trails and making signage, designing tee-shirts and patches and, at the very last minute pitching in to clear already groomed trails suddenly filled of debris from an unexpectedly late and damaging ice storm.
We appreciate everyone coming to Rugby and participating in the event. Come back and hike with us again soon! The views on the trails in Rugby are constantly changing with the seasons and even as the late ice storm reminded us of our long winter, the signs of spring are ready to burst forth from the ground and trees.
