We have a jam packed weekend for all of you wonderful Dad’s (and families!) here in Rugby! Not only are we celebrating Father’s Day at the Harrow Road Cafe with a special menu Friday, June 13th through Sunday, June 15th, we also have TWO unique presentations in our fabulous Rebecca Johnson Theatre in the Visitor Centre this weekend and both are free of charge.
On Friday night we are featuring a very interesting FREE program in Rugby: “Invisible People of the Upper Cumberland Plateau,” a rare look at African-American residents in Rugby & the region. 7:30 p.m. Eastern/6:30 Central presented by Tom des Jean of the National Park Service in the Big South Fork park.
On Saturday night we are featuring the writer Terry Roberts as part of our Appalachian Writers’ Series. Mr. Roberts will be discussing his historic novel “A Short Tme To Stay Here”. His presentation begins at 7:00 p.m. Eastern/ 6:00 Central in the Rebecca Johnson Theatre. Don’t miss this opportunity to hear an acclaimed writer talk about his novel, winner of both the 2012 Willie Morris Prize for Southern Literature and the 2013 Sir Walter Raleigh Award! There will be a book signing after the discussion.
But, that’s not all folks! We also have ranger led hikes on both Saturday and Sunday (1:00 pm, ET) into the popular and scenic trails of the Big South National River and Recreation Area, accessed through Rugby.
What could be better for a GREAT Father’s Day than a beautiful hike, a terrific dinner and a heartwarming event in our beautiful little theatre? Not much beats what we have planned here in Rugby-just for YOU.
It’s our way of saying “HAPPY FATHER’S DAY” to all the great guys who work so hard to make a difference for their families. We applaud you!
