Historic Rugby Lodging - A Special Experience

Step back into Victorian times at restored Newbury House Bed and Breakfast, built in 1880 as the first boarding house in the Rugby colony. It has six Victorian-furnished bedrooms, four with private baths and two sharing a large bath in the hall. The two-room Thomas Hughes Suite has queen and twin beds and a working fireplace. The large guest parlor with ceiling fans and fireplace, the verandah, and pondside deck are great places for quiet relaxation. TV with DVD for movie viewing only in sunroom. Newbury House will accommodate up to 14 people depending upon the mix of couples and singles.

Restored Pioneer Cottage (picture left) has a more rustic atmosphere and includes a large parlor, equipped kitchen, screened-in porch, three bedrooms with a total of five double and twin beds, a full bath and half bath. Pioneer was literally the first structure built in Rugby in 1880. Founder Thomas Hughes stayed here on his first visit to the new colony as did many other settlers in early years. Its hand-planed poplar walls could tell many tales if they could speak. Pioneer will accommodate up to 8 people. TV w/DVD Player for movie viewing only.

Historically reconstructed Percy Cottage , adjacent to the founder's home and garden, offers charming lodging within this quaint little cottage. Three bedrooms feature a queen bed in master suite (first level) and a queen bed in one of the upstairs guest rooms and a twin bed in third bedroom, kitchenette/sitting room, formal parlor and two full bathrooms. Percy will accommodate up to five people. FREE WIFI @ PERCY COTTAGE (picture right)

All lodging facilities are within a two-block area in the National Register Historic District. Historic Rugby is an ideal location for group lodging , for retreats, seminars, reunions, etc., for up to 30. Rate discounts may be available depending upon facilities used and length of stay. Historic Rugby Vision

British-founded Rugby, Tennessee, is a rare example of a rural, living community that survives from its 1880s utopian beginnings with its town plan intact, many buildings and its natural setting preserved and with no encroaching incompatible development. This is the result of a long chain of human effort to preserve it, inspired by its founder's vision of equality and cooperation, community planning and natural resources stewardship. Rugby and its heritage must be preserved for all time and shared with this and future generations.
