Historic Rugby's Vision & Mission
Historic Rugby's Vision and Mission guide everything we do and help
define the organization. Public support makes the work possible.
Historic Rugby Vision
British-founded Rugby, Tennessee, is a rare example of a living American
community that survives from its 1880s utopian beginnings with its town plan intact,
many buildings and its natural setting preserved and with no encroaching
incompatible development. This is the result of a long chain of human effort
to preserve it, inspired by its founder’s vision of equality and cooperation,
community planning and natural resources stewardship. Rugby and its heritage
must be preserved for all time and shared with this and future generations.
Historic Rugby Mission
Historic Rugby works within the context of a living historic community
to restore, preserve and interpret the cultural and natural resources and
British Isles and Appalachian Heritage of the Rugby Colony National Register
Historic District, and to encourage architecturally and environmentally
appropriate new development, for the benefit of this and future generations.
