Welcome to the Harrow Road Café, a Rugby tradition since the 1880’s!
The Harrow Road Cafe is now open Thursday for lunch from 11am-3pm Eastern Time, Friday and Saturday for breakfast and lunch from 8am-3pm Eastern Time, and Sunday from 9am-3pm Eastern Time, serving a special brunch menu. You can also get news at the Harrow Road Cafe Facebook page.
New Look, New Menu
At the end of the 2015 season, we made the decision to close the Harrow Road Café for some much needed repairs.
The café needed a new roof and HVAC system. Several major pieces of kitchen equipment needed repairs. The café, built in 1985, was starting to show its age.
So we used the closing as an opportunity—to take a look at every aspect of café operations and look for ways that we could do things better. We conducted a survey of Rugby residents, visitors, citizens of Morgan, Scott, and Fentress County, and anyone else who wanted to participate.
We received more than 350 responses—the most of any survey conducted by Historic Rugby. And respondents told us many things.
We took this information and began crafting an all-new plan for café operations. In April, we’ll re-open with a whole new look and a new menu that focuses on fresh ingredients, creative new food ideas, and all of your traditional Rugby favorites.
New Hospitality Manager Amy Hubbard has extensive restaurant experience. She and her daughters, Lucy Maye and Emma Jean, are Rugby’s newest residents. And Amy is bringing a fresh new approach. You’ll see Amy working with local farms to create some true farm-to-table creations. You’ll see a new emphasis on customer care and service, with staff that is not only trained in food, but in the history and traditions of Rugby itself. The café will be a focal point of village activity, and the menu will offer new choices for hikers wanting a “to-go” meal for the day, and for residents and locals who just want to drop in and catch up on village news.
PLEASE NOTE RUGBY IS ON EASTERN TIME
From THE RUGBEIAN Newspaper, 1882
“A café has been started in Harrow Road by a couple of enterprising young Englishmen and meals can be obtained there any time between the hours of 8am and 10pm. They have a long and varied list of comestibles and are likely to drive a roaring trade.”
We offer a full menu featuring British specialties and American favorites, as well as home-made desserts! Also available is a selection of wines and ales-several by way of the British Isles.
Come by and enjoy a good meal and convivial company!
