This is a series of articles celebrating our volunteers and all the work they do for, and with, Historic Rugby! When folks come to visit Historic Rugby chances are they will make the Visitor Centre their first stop. In addition to our hardworking staff, we are most fortunate to have a group of dedicated volunteers who enjoy greeting our visitors and providing them with all the info they need to make their stay in Rugby enjoyable!

Some of the many duties these volunteers perform are providing site information to new visitors, collecting admission for the film and tour, showing the film in the beautiful Rebecca Johnson Theatre and taking our visitors on tour of three of the most important buildings in Rugby.

They also help check in our lodgers who are booked in one of our three historic homes: Pioneer Cottage, Percy Cottage and Newbury Bed and Breakfast.

The volunteers who have helped in the Visitor Centre this year have been Gayle Minor, Mike Harris, Tom Howell, Bob and Jane Fuchs, Hadley and Marilyn Hury, Rita Myers, Linda Konig, Rebecca Brown, George Zepp, Lavonne Gibbs, and Gerald Hanwright.

All these folks have a passion for Rugby and its intriguing history and they enjoy nothing more than to share their knowledge and love of the place with our guests! As Jane Fuchs puts it “ What I most like about volunteering at the Visitor Centre is sharing my enthusiasm and fondness for Rugby. I so want everyone to watch the film and take the tour, as only then will visitors truly experience what Rugby is all about. It is possible to be captivated by the village itself, but its history is what leads one to absorb the spirit of Rugby.”

They get a lot out of meeting our visitors as well! Hadley Hury says “We enjoy the variety of individuals, groups, and family configurations who pass through–from all over, and both those who’d heard of Rugby and the many who simply stumble on it.”

We thank these volunteers for the time they give to Historic Rugby and for the hospitality they show folks from all over! They work hard to greet our guests at the Visitor Centre in a friendly, and enthusiastic, manner! Come up to visit us-we’re waiting for you!
