The Commissary in Historic Rugby announces the new series for 2018, the “Porch Series”. This is a free event to attend.

The Rugby Printing Works will set up on the front porch of the Commissary and demonstrate the printing process of the 1880’s.

They will set up a Hand Press along with Type Tray’s and a Composing Table to demonstrate the process involved in transferring a “thought” to paper.

They will have blank pre-printed pieces of paper that they will then have visitors that attend the event set up their own type and then watch as that “type image” is then printed on the blank forms.

They will also explain the process and the history of how a “picture” goes from an original image to the printed image.

There will also be on display the “Wanted Poster” of printed pictures of people and places from the past that the print shop would like you to identify.

These are images that were printed in a newspaper from the East TN area from the 1930’s to the 1950’s.
