Dine and Shop In A Beautiful Victorian Village.
Historic Rugby is known around the world. Founded in 1880 as an English colony for second sons of Victorian families (who didn’t inherit family fortunes) to get a fresh start, the village attracts thousands of visitors each year. While in Rugby, there’s plenty to do. Eat at The Harrow Road Cafe and enjoy signature English and American fare. Shop the Rugby Commissary, Spirit of Red Hill Shop, Missions Matter, and Please Be Seated. You’ll find British goods and local crafts, nature art, antiques and oddities, and lots more. Take in a guided tour of Historic Rugby buildings (including a library with over 7,000 volumes dating back to the 1600s), and learn the fascinating history of this unique community.
Hike In A National Park. (There’s Even A Swimming Hole!)
There are 10 hiking trails that start in Rugby. You can walk from the village center into a National Park or Tennessee State Natural Area. And if you want to cool off, it’s a short walk through beautiful wilderness to the “Gentlemen’s Swimming Hole,” where people have been beating the summer heat from more than 130 years.
Find Bargains And Unique Crafts At Street Fair.
The weekend of the Classic Car Show, there’s an added treat–Rugby’s annual Street Fair, with crafters demonstrating their skills and offering a variety of wares, from candles and salves to knives, leather goods, and other one-of-a-kind items.
